I Thought Of You Today

I thought of you today,
And rose up from my bed.
Your soft repose that this one knows
To greet the day ahead.

I thought of you today
As down the stairs I trod
To tend and care our children there
All four, by you, from God.

I thought of you today
And to the market went
To purchase things, while Maddy sings
Midst Harry’s discontent.

I thought of you today
When lunch we did enjoy.
I missed you there, your empty chair
To bitterly annoy.

I thought of you today
While as it often goes,
I washed and dried, and thought that I’d
Fold all the laundered clothes.

I thought of you today
As time crept slowly by.
I dreamt of you, and what we’d do
To catch each other’s eye.

I thought of you today.
Time ticks a dreadful fate.
I watch the clock. It stares a mock.
It knows I cannot wait.

I thought of you today
I’m thinking of you now.
And soon you’ll be right here with me
Brief respite time allow.

I thought of you today.
Welcome in, my dear.
Now you are home. No more to roam.
And I’m so glad you’re here.
